Cemetery Project Update:

Alhamdulillah, ICBN has signed the cemetery contract with Evergreen Memorial Cemetery . ICBN has pre-sold 15 of the 20 plots it purchased. The remaining 5 will be used as necessary. These plots are positioned properly, so when the plane of the body is turned on its right side it faces the Kabba (northeast). Also, special instructions have been given to and recorded in writing by they cemetery so the Islamic practice and etiquette are followed at the time of burial.

We would like to thank all the individuals that worked on the first phase of this project and a special thanks to Br. Mufti Haroon (Muslim Funeral Services Director) for guiding us in the process, ensuring all the Islamic requirements were met.

The next phase of the project is underway, which is to select a local funeral home, where we would clean the body and to select a vault company that would assist in lowering the body into the grave. We will contact and work with both entities to ensure proper Islamic procedures can be conducted at the funeral home and in the act of laying the body to rest. Mufti Haroon agreed to continue to work with us on these steps. Lastly, we plan to post the protocols, or the step one would take if there was a death in the family, on the ICBN website. This would ensure the proper people are contacted at the time of death, Islamic procedures are followed, and the funeral occurs in a timely manner. We hope to report to you this summer with the completion of the project.

Please note: If you wanted to get a plot, but did not, please contact ICBN (icbn-cemetery@usicbn.org) by May 1st. If we get individuals to buy a total of 4 or more plots, we could expand the Islamic section of the cemetery.
